I shared about Commonspace Arts about a month ago. It’s a shared space for creative freelancers to work in and use downtown. Basically an alternative to the usual office space rental for people who need a place to work out of independently. It’s something that has never existed in Spokane and I’m really excited to see it all come together. We are going to be partnering with them for Timber meetings, the creative collective I’ve started with some other designers.

We finalized the logo and have begun some other branding explorations. I’m really excited about how it’s turning out. I’ll get to the final logo, but I always have to share rejected ideas because I love to show the range and process we go through in developing these ideas. And I think they are neat and deserve to be seen.

Now the logo final. This project needed something bold, artsy (duh) but still simple. I’ve been on a huge script lettering kick and knew it would be fitting to do something type focused. Because Commonspace Arts doesn’t cater to one specific field or medium of art I didn’t find specific imagery to be fitting. They might be hosting musicians, audio engineers, web developers, fine artists, writers, designers, etc. And it also is a non-profit and place for meetings and small events. Needless to say, the logo needs to be appropriate for all of the above. I obviously love typography, so I often find my favorite logos are ones with unique lettering. I’m glad they were open to taking this route. Here’s what we came up with…

We are processing some color palettes now and business cards. Probably some other pieces along the way as well. All of the info is fake on these cards, so don’t try to look them up with this info because it’s not going to get you anywhere. Once the website is up, I’ll be sure to pass it along.

Do you have a favorite one? I think the first business card design is my favorite right now. But the crazy green to pink gradient on the bottom one is really hitting the spot for some reason.

  1. Agreed on both fronts. I like the design (and colors) of the first, but I can’t break up with the last.

  2. My initial reaction leans toward the first as well. But I also really like the fresh and unique look of the last. Awesome work Karli!

  3. I like the way you people think.

thanks for the input! GRADIENTS FOR LIFE! (or at least till they stop being cool again)
