When I heard Laura Veirs was coming out with a new album I knew I just had to do a First Draw post on it. She has been one of my very favorite artists for years. I especially wanted to do a drawing to it because it’s a children’s music album! How fun. I will admit, I listened to the album once before I drew to it, but I promise I didn’t think up any ideas before doing the drawing. This artwork, made in 40 minutes definitely doesn’t hold a candle to Carson Ellis’ beautiful illustrations for the album. But it’s my own little rendition of some of the imagery in the fun lyrics. Hope you enjoy!

And here’s a little video about the making of the album. You can of course buy the album at record stores or digital music stores…or listen to it on spotify!

**First Draw is a drawing exercise I do collaborated with new albums which I usually find on NPR’s First Listen. The drawing is done completely in context and connection with the listening to of the album. It’s a fun way to loosen up my creativity and connect my hands with my ears. I love to feature guest artists on Rough Gems. so if you would like to try your hand at this exercise…feel free to contact me!**
