I had been wanting to do another First Draw post for a while now and I attempted one last week to St. Vincent’s new album. Even though it was a fun exercise, the actual final product was just too weird and not presentable. So, today I attempted again and I think I will post it. Meg Baird is the artist. Although I didn’t know her name, I had heard her voice before. The lead singer of Espers and a guest vocalist on one of Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy’s past records, she was definitely sonically familiar. The album is on NPR’s first listen and it is quite lovely. Very mellow and full of finger-picking guitars and pedal steel. Her voice is about as folky as them come and the song-writing reminded me of Vashti Bunyan. I don’t know how much I would listen to the album again, but it was fun to draw to and made for a very peaceful background.

I also experimented with the quill pens and inks I got from my grandma last week for this drawing. I spilled a little bit of pink on the table, but other than that, they were very fun to use. Here’s the outcome.
