My trip out to Boston several years ago…and my friendship with Kimber Ludiker of Della Mae continues to bring amazing musicians to my door in search of album art. A few months ago I got contacted by Maeve who is friends with several musicians I’ve done art for in the past, Heartacre, Della Mae, Margaret Glaspy and Aoife O’Donovan. She is a harpist originally from Scotland, now living in the NE creating really amazing music. She’s also a composer and her newest project is an exploration of the Ostinato…a musical term that has to do with the repetition of ideas (not a term I was familiar with or even still completely understand). I’m listening to it right now and it is a perfect fit for this frosty winter morning.

The design for the cover, similar to the music was supposed to be very sparse, open and leaving the feeling of an expanse. The collage of the background is a layering of a bunch of found textures and images from different places. And the font is Egyptian Bodoni, which I have had my eye on for several months. This was a perfect chance to use it’s simple/modern slab-serif characters.

Along the way I played with some hand-done versions of the title but Maeve wanted something more rigid and modern.
