I’ve had the pleasure of working on album art for a fabulous Fiddle player from Boston named Mariel Vandersteel. She plays a Hardanger fiddle which is a super unique, beautiful Norwegian instrument. I was given a lot of lovely photos to choose from for the artwork and it’s become a really fun exploration of type and layout. Here’s the cover. I love the simplicity of the white lines over the blurred part of the photo.
I ended up creating a whole font for the inside of packaging. I wasn’t finding that any manufactured font would work for this particular design so I created one based on the two fonts from the cover. Here’s the bold “hickory” font.
And here is a little snippet of how I used the font on the tracklist. The project is still in process and I hope to photograph the actual packaging when I get copies because I’m really happy with how it’s turning out. I will also for sure post a link to where you can listen to it because the album really is fantastic!
